Acupuncture Point Huagai (CV20)
Location:
Lie supinely or sit upright; on the mid-sternal line, at the same level of the 1st intercostal space.

Function:
Removing heat from the lung and relieving sore throat.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin subcutaneous tissue-origin of greater pectoral muscle-between manubrium of sternum and sternal body (sternal angle).
There are the anterior cutaneous branches of the 1st intercostal nerve and the perforating branches of the internal thoracic artery and vein in this area.

Indications:
Cough, Asthma, hematemesis, pain in the chest and intercostal regions, and sore throat.

Prescription:
Combined use with Futu (LI 18) for treatment of glottis spasm; and with Feishu (BL 13) and Lieque (LU7) Luo-Connecting Point the Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of bronchitis.

Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local distention; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Be careful about the arteria thoracica interna and its branches when puncture the points on the anterior wall of chest, especially on both borders of sternum.
