Reflexology, An Evolving Science

The science and artful application of Reflexology is moving forward and ever changing. There are a host of Reflexologists all over the world with many, many years of experience finding new and exciting ways of working with the reflexes of the body.

Eunice Ingham who lived from 1889 - 1974, and who has often been referred to as the "Mother of Reflexology", did wonderful pioneering work in bringing Reflexology back into popularity as a healing modality. Her motivation as she says in her book "Stories the Feet Can Tell through Reflexology" (first published in1938) was that her work may prove to be another stepping stone to greater heights along this new but effective way of helping those who seek for better health and efficiency.

Another stepping stone along the road to Reflexology being taken seriously as a profession, is increasing the number of hours it takes to be an accomplished professional practitioner. It is acknowledged that not everyone wants to be in business as a professional practitioner. However there is plenty of room for education at different levels - many folks simply want to learn Reflexology for fun, or to help a family member recover from a health challenge.

The opportunity to learn the basics of Reflexology are offered in many introductory courses around the world, and if you are a newcomer to this field we strongly urge you to consider taking one of these courses. What you will learn, will be of great benefit both to your own health, and that of your loved ones. You have everything to gain.

Those who choose to practice Reflexology as a profession, should be aware of the various levels and types of Reflexology offered, and should be willing to raise your level of education to encompass some of the new, exciting and very effective methods now being offered, to current with new information.

The Universal College of Reflexology was specifically created to be instrumental in raising the level of education and information available.

Many institutions offer advanced Reflexology studies, with the proviso that all the basic studies have been taken with them prior to moving on to higher levels. This closed shop attitude prevents students from being able to learn from several sources, and thereby achieve a well-rounded education in the field of Reflexology.

Every school, college or place of education has something to offer, and the philosophy that "my Reflexology is better than yours", does nothing to further the professionalism that Reflexology requires in order to keep up with other wholistic therapies.
