The acupoints are selected in the light of pathogenesis and the differentiation of syndromes. It is marked by the same combination for acupoints in the treatment of the same syndrome and different combination of acupoints for the treatment of different disease. For example, Xingjian(LR 2) or Taichong (LR 3) is added for the treatment of headache due to hyperactivity of liver-yang; while Ganshu(BL 18), Pishu (BL 20), Shenshu (BL 23) and Zusanli(ST 36) are added for the treatment of headache due to asthenia of both qi and blood.
As to the treatment of insomnia, Xinshu (BL 15), Shenshu (BL 23) and Taixi (KI3) are selected to treat insomnia caused by disharmony between the heart and kidney; while Fengchi (GB 20), Neiguan (PC 6) and Fenglong (ST 40) are selected to treat insomnia due to disturbance of the heart by phlegm-heat. Baihui (GV 20) is selected to treat gastroptosis, hysteroptosis and proctoptosis due to qi asthenia. As tothe treatment of sore throat, Shaoshang (LU 11), Hegu(LI 4) and Neiting (ST 44) are selected to treat sthenia-heat syndrome while Taixi (KI 3), Zhaohai (KI 6) and Yuji (LU 10) are selected to treat asthenia-heat syndrome.
