    Location
    ( GV-23 Upper Star SHANGXING - Acupuncture Points ) On the midline, 1 cun superior to the anterior hairline or 4 cun anterior to GV-20.

    How to find
    First, locate the anterior hairline and, from there, palpate 1 cun in a superior direction. There, locate GV-23 on the midline. For reference: The distance from the anterior hairline to GV-20 is 5 cun.
    Located on the same level is -- BL-5 (1.5 cun lateral to the midline).

    Needling
    Transversely (subcutaneously) 0.3–0.5 cun. Moxibustion possible.

    Actions/Indications
    Dispels pathogenic factors (especially Wind and Heat) from the nose
    Dispels pathogenic factors (especially Heat) from the face
    Calms the shen
    shangxing (gv 23)
