Chinese Medicine Treatment for Aplastic Anemia

Syndrome differentiation and treatment
The treatment of aplastic anemia should follow the principle of "treating secondary symptoms for emergence and seeking the root cause of disease for the treatment of a mild disorder". In treating acute aplastic anemia (syndrome of consumed bone marrow due to warm-heat pathogen), hemorrhage and infection should be first managed. Importance should be attached to clearing away heat and removing toxin, cooling blood and checking hemorrhage to treat secondary symptoms. When the disease is stable, methods of tonifying the spleen and kidney, supplementing qi and nourishing blood are applied to eliminate the root causes of the disease. When treating chronic aplastic anemia (syndromes of yin deficiency of the kidney and yang deficiency of the kidney), emphasis should be placed on tonifying the kidney to replenish renal essence, supplementing qi and nourishing blood, removing blood stasis to promote blood circulation.
