Cerebral palsy pertains to the categories of "weizheng" (flaccidity syndrome), "wuchi" (five retardations in development) and "wuruan" (five kinds of flaccidity), etc. in TCM. A comprehensive survey of researches on the causes of the disease by doctors in every dynasty shows that most doctors believed that the main causes lie in congenital deficiency of the fetus, improper nursing, blood stasis obstructing cerebral collaterals or internal accumulation of phlegm and dampness. However, the general causes of the disease can not be beyond the scope of congenital factors and acquired ones. The sites of the pathological changes lie in the brain, kidney, spleen and liver, especially the kidney, the congenital base of life, and the spleen, the postnatal base of life.
