Symptoms of Achilles Tendinitis

Symptoms of Achilles Tendinitis
Achilles tendinitis can come on gradually and get worse over weeks or months or develop more quickly, over the course of a few days. The pain of achilles tendinitis is burning in nature, felt in the back of the leg just above the heel, and worse during exercise.

Along with pain, there may be swelling over the Achilles tendon and morning stiffness in both your heel and calf that eases as you warm up and stretch your ankle and leg.

Chronic Achilles tendonitis (when the pain persists for more than three months) often results from a bout of acute tendonitis that fails to heal properly. A chronic condition may actually cause tendon thickening or small scar-like bumps to develop in the tendon.
