In China, when you are a young child, you are always made aware of healthy choices. We were told, "This is good for your health; that is bad." We consciously made choices to maintain our health and well-being. However, in this country many children grow up with a different attitude. Americans generally live in the moment and don’t think about the long-term consequences of their actions.

To help make people more proactive about their health, I began to speak in 1999 about this topic in lectures, first to the nursing community, and then to the general public. Everyone was very enthusiastic! People were eager for information. They were curious on how to use food for healing. They wanted to know how to treat illness in more natural ways. They also wanted to learn about Qi Gong, the art of combining physical exercises, stretching, breathing, and self-massage, as a way to relieve illness and prevent disease.

Since so many people of all ages and backgrounds wanted to learn about Chinese medicine, I decided to put my experiences, research and thoughts together and write this book Simple Chinese Medicine: A Beginners’ Guide to Natural Healing & Well-Being. I describe what Chinese medicine is and explain the various therapeutic modalities including; acupuncture, massage, auricular therapy, exercise, herbal medicine and Taoist healing.

As a young doctor in China, I was taught how to use these methods of healing along with the methods of healing used in this country. I soon discovered that using the traditional methods of Chinese medicine helped my patients.  Many of my patients have tried Western medicine first, often seeing several different specialists, without finding any relief. In my book, I explain the differences between Western medicine and Chinese medicine. I also clarify the thinking behind Chinese exercise and Western exercise and how to choose the form of exercise that will be the most beneficial.  Click to learn how Chinese medicine treats Contact Dermatitis.

Since I believe so strongly in prevention, I have written an entire section on self-care. I detail self-healing methods, cancer prevention strategies and using food for healing and weight control.  Healthy and easy recipes are provided to give readers more appealing choices for a better diet, to help in healing and maintaining normal weight.

I am frequently asked to explain the Taoist philosophy. Thus, I have included an introduction in this book. Tao, (pronounced Dao), means the "Natural Way," following what is most alive and spontaneous. Readers will learn how to apply techniques which can help them feel more relaxed in their daily lives.

Often people think they are healthy, and don’t understand why they become sick later in life. In this book, I describe what good health means and how to attain it.  Readers of "Simple Chinese Medicine:  A Beginner's Guide to Natural Healing and Well-Being" will learn how to incorporate the healing benefits of Chinese medicine to enhance their quality of life in practical ways that will transform their lives.
