Reflexology has a positive affect on sinusits

In addition to a  running nose, patients with acute or chronic sinusitis may suffer from distending or pulsating pain in forehead, starting in the morning and reduced in the afternoon, with local tenderness or knocking pain. Patients with acute maxillary sinusitis may suffer from toothache of. upper teeth and pain in cheeks with tenderness in notch of the canine tooth. Patients with acute ethmoidal sinusitis may suffer from pain in forehead and inner canthus of eye with tenderness in this region, increase of nasal discharge, nasal obstruction, redness and swelling of nasal mucosa, especially over middle concha, impairment of sense of smell, and purulent discharge in middle meatus of ear.
   
In recent years, the incidence of allergic rhinitis has increased, and_the therapeutic effect of drugs has not been satisfactory. Foot therapy can produce a 90 percent cure rate and 10 percent effective rate. This disease is caused by an allergy to fur, fibers, pollen, dust, and chemicals and patients may suffer from sneezing, running nose, and nasal obstruction.
   
Treatment:
Foot massage:
1) Sinusitis: The massage is applied to nose (6), parathyroid gland (13), lymph nodes (upper body, 39), lymph nodes (abdomen, 40) and frontal sinus (2) reflecting
areas.

2) Allergic rhinitis: The massage is applied to nose (6), throat and trachea (48), lung (43), pituitary gland (4), adrenal gland (21) and lymph nodes (upper body, 39) reflecting areas (Fig. 114).
  
Foot acupuncture:
1) Meridianal acupoint: A reducing acupuncture technique is applied to Jinggu (BL64) and the needle is retained for 20 minutes.

2) Foot acupoints: A moderate acupuncture stimulation is applied at Head and face (FA-P 1) and Lung (FA-P 6) acupoints and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.
  
External application of drugs:
1) Running nose: A slice of garlic is applied to the central area of soles to produce a good effect.

2) Running nose in aged people: The paste of 4-5 bulbs of single-bulb garlic is applied to the central area of soles and covered with a piece of paper to stop nasal discharge.

3) Nasal obstruction with foul nasal discharge: The powder of Aconitum carmichaeli (Fuzi) is mixed with the sticky juice from the hollow tubes of green onion to prepare a paste (35 gm) for application to Yongquan (KI 1) acupoints and covered with a piece of gauze. The paste is changed once a day.

4) Running nose: The powder of Fuzi (raw aconite lateral root) 31 gm, wheat flour 16 gm and green onion 8 gm are pounded with alcohol to prepare a paste for application to the central area of soles.
