Tuberculosis of the shoulder joint is uncommon. Approximately only 0.9 to 1.7% of tubercular lesions of the skeletal variety occur in the shoulder joint. Twelve cases of tuberculosis of shoulder were seen in last ten years. The mean complaints were long duration of pain, stiffness of varying degree, and wasting of shoulder muscles in all. Cold abscess and sinus formation were present in one case each. We have observed three types of affection: Type I, the Caries sicca the atrophic form, Type II the Caries exudata with swelling and cold abscess formation and Type III the Caries mobile with good range of passive movements. Nearly half the cases were initially misdiagnosed as having a frozen shoulder.
