Large shipment of medicaments recovered at Quanzhou Bay
A large shipment of medicaments was recovered in August 1973 from a Song boat sunken at Quanzhou Bay, Fujian Province. It included frankincense,  mercury, cinnabar, peppermint, areca nut, and aloeswood, reflecting international commerce in drugs and aromatics in the Song Dynasty. Fig. 1 shows the frankincense preserved at the Museum for History of Medicine, Shanghai University of TCM. Fig. 2 shows the scented rosewood, sandalwood, and aloeswood preserved at the Museum of Medical History, Beijing University of TCM.
