Elucidation:
This syndrome is the result of blood stasis in the chest and disorder of qi activity. It should be treated by promoting the circulation of blood and qi to remove stasis and relieve pain. The first two ingredients are essential drugs for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, which act as monarch drugs with doubled effect. Used as minister drugs, No. 6 has the action of promoting blood flow and removing blood stasis, No. 5 promoting the flow of qi and blood, and No. 7 promoting smooth flow of blood in vessels and causing blood stasis to descend, which all help bring about the effect of monarch drugs.

No. 10 and No. 8 can regulate flow of qi and No. 9 disperse the stagnated liver-qi, whose combination constitutes the effects of regulating qi function of the liver and gallbladder to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis. No. 4 and No. 3 nourish blood and yin and clear away the latent heat in blood. The above five ingredients play the part of adjuvant drugs. No. 11 serves as guiding drug to mediate properties of other drugs. The compatibility of this recipe is meant to promote the circulation of blood and nourish blood, to promote the flow of qi and clear away heat simultaneously so as to prevent impairment of blood and accumulation of heat.
