It is applicable to dysfunctional uterine bleeding, which belong to debility of the chong meridian due to spleen deficiency. If concomitant with cold limbs and perspiration, thready and feeble pulse, which are indicative of yang exhaustion, increase the dosage of ingredient No. 2 and use Shenfu Tang [Renshen (Radix Ginseng) and Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Praeparatae)] simultaneously so as to supplement qi and restore yang.

The syndrome is caused by failure of the spleen in controlling blood and debility of thoroughfare vessel. It should be treated by replenishing qi and invigorating the spleen, reinforcing the thoroughfare vessel to arrest bleeding. In larger dosages, the first two ingredients are meant to supplement qi and reinforce the spleen to control blood and used as monarch drugs. Ingredients No. 5 and No.6 function as minister drugs with the effects of invigorating the liver and kidney, nourishing blood and preserving yin. Ingredients No. 3, No. 4, No. 9 and No.10 astringe and enrich blood, while No. 7 and No. 8 can resolve blood stasis to stop bleeding. Therefore, their combination can result in the effect of stopping bleeding without retaining blood stasis. These six ingredients play the role of adjuvant drug.

Cautions: This recipe is contraindicated for patients with metrorrhagia due to heat in the blood.
