1. Herbal Therapy
A. Internal Medicine
a. Liver and Kidney Deficiency Syndrome
Therapeutic Methods: Replenish the liver and kidney, nourish blood and expel wind.
Prescription: Modified "Shen Ying Yang Zhen Pellet" .

b. Syndrome of Obstruction of Meridians and Collaterals due to Stagnation
Therapeutic Methods: Open the orifice, activate blood, and dissolve stagnation for hair growth.
Prescription: Modified "Tong Qiao Huo Xue Decoction" .

B. External Medicine
a. Smearing Method:  "Fu Fang Cebai Washing Water","101 Sheng Fa Tincture", or "Mao Jiang", "Sheng Fa Tincture", "30 % Buguzhi Tincture" and "Lajiao Tincture". Choose either of the above herbal medicines for external application optionally, twice a day.

b. Ingredients: Six pieces of ginger, Sheng banxia(Pinellia ternata) 15g.
Administration: Grind the Sheng Banxia into fine powder. Rub the affect part with ginger for a minute, then stop for a while, go on rubbing for one more 1-2 minutes. Then mix the Sheng Banxia powder with sesame oil and rub the affected part, use this method continuously until the hair grows.

c. Ingredients: Sang baipi( the root bark of white mulberry) 150g
Administration: Decoct the drug and take the decoction, concentrate and store in bottle, spread on the affected part, several times a day.

d. Ingredients: Tongzi he(seed of tung tree) 15g
Administration: Dip it into the boiling water, then take the decoction and spread on the affected part for 2-3 times a day.

e. Ingredients: Several pieces of old ginger
Administration: Dip it into the Kaoliang wine ( wine made from sorghum) for 2-3 days, spread on the affected part often, it can work effectively in half a mouth.

f. Ingredients: Three pieces of Wugong(centipede), Tea oil 90g
Administration: Dip Wugong into tea oil for 4-5 days, take the oil after filtering and spread on the affected part for three times a day.

g. Ingredients: Xian Gusuibu( Fresh Rhizoma Drynariae) 50-100g
Administration: Cut the drug into thin pieces, then rub the affected part with thin pieces with salt, three times a day.

h. Ingredients: ginger 30g, ginseng 30g
Administration: Bake the ginger skin until it is dry, then grind ginseng and ginger skin into fine powder, cut off the ginger and dip the powder to rub the affected part.

2. Acupuncture Therapy
1) Rub the affected part with ginger until it feels hot, 2-3 times a day, 2-3 mouths as a course of treatment.

2) Hard press Fanglao acupoint located 1cun (about 3.33cm) behind Baihui (GV20), Jiannao acupoint of both sides located 0.5cun (about 1.665cm) below Fengchi (GB20) for three minutes on each acupoint. Soft knock and stimulate the above acupoits and affected part. Wip from Baihui (GV20) to Fanglao acupoint for thirty times, Fengchi (GB20) to Jiannao acupoints for thirty times as well. Can press one Touwei (ST8) for 2 minutes for  the patient with alopecia on forehead or both temples. For the patients with alopecia accompanied with headache, can press one Dazhui (GV14) for 2minutes. For the patient with alopecia accompanied with much secretion of fat, can press one Shangxing (GV23) for one minute, stop when the pain of swelling is felt.

3) Rub from down to up along the kidney meridian of foot-shaoyin for five times softly.

4) Point press Sanyinjiao(SP6) until the sense of sour and swelling is felt.

3. Guasha Therapy
1) Syndrome due to excessive wind and dryness of blood
a. Symptoms: Local alopecia with shapes of round, oval or irregular shapes, the area can be big or small, have obvious border, the local skin is smooth and soft accompanied with vertigo and dry mouth. 

b. Acupoints: Dazhui(GV14), Dazhu (BL 11), Feishu (BL 13), Geshu (BL17), Pishu (BL20), Ganshu (BL 18), Danshu (BL19), Shenshu (BL23), Waiguan (TE5), Xuehai(SP 10), Hegu (LI 4)

c. Scrapping Order: First scrap Dazhui(GV14) on the neck and Dazhu (BL 11) on the back, then scrap the back from Feishu (BL 13) to Shenshu (BL23), then scrap Waiguan (TE5) on the fore-arm, Hegu(LI14), last Xuehai (SP 10) in the lower limb.

d. Scrapping Method: Spread a certain amount of scrapping oil on the scrapping parts, first scrap Dazhui(GV14) on the neck and Dazhu( BL11) on the back softly, can scrap with edge of scrapping blade until the skin appears Sha. Then scrap the back from Feishu (BL 13) to Shenshu (BL23) from up to down until the skin is red and has purple Sha. The last, scrap on the Waiguan (TE5), Hegu(LI14) on hand and Xuehai(SP10) with emphasis on the inside of lower limb, 30 times on every acupoint until Sha appears. 

2)  Syndrome due to stagnation of Qi and blood
a. Symptoms: Dry and dim hair, depressed emotion, irritability, swelling in both sides of chest, comfortable when feel warm, purple tongue with ecchymosis.

b. Acupoints: Dazhui(GV14), Dazhu( BL11), Feishu (BL 13), Pishu (BL20), Ganshu (BL 18), Danshu (BL19), Shenshu (BL23), Xingjian(LR2), Taichong (LR 3), Yanglingquan(GB34), Sanyinjiao (SP6)

c. Scrapping Order: First scrap Dazhui(GV14) on the neck and Dazhu (BL 11) on the back, then scrap the back from Feishu (BL 13) to Shenshu (BL23), then scrap Sanyinjiao (SP6) in the inside of lower limb, then Yanglingquan(GB34) in the outside of lower limb, last scrap from Taichong (LR 3) to Xingjian (LR2).

d. Scrapping Method: Spread a certain amount of scrapping oil on the scrapping parts, first scrap Dazhui(GV14) on the neck and Dazhu( BL11) on the back softly, can scrap with edge of scrapping blade until the skin appears Sha. Then scrap the back from Feishu(BL13) to Shenshu(BL23) from up to down until the skin is red and has purple Sha. The last scrap hardly on the  Sanyinjiao(SP6) in the inside of lower limb, then Yanglingquan(GB34) in the outside of lower limb, 30 times on every acupoint until appears Sha. Scrap from Taichong(LR3) to Xingjian(LR2) with emphasis on the foot until the skin is red and has purple Sha.

3) Syndrome due to deficiency of Qi and blood
a. Symptoms: Dry-up hair, pale complexion, fatigue, pale tongue.

b. Acupoints: Dazhui (GV14), Dazhu ( BL 11), Feishu (BL 13), Pishu (BL20), Ganshu (BL 18), Shenshu (BL23), Zusanli (ST 36), Qihai(RN6), Guanyuanshu (BL 26)

c. Scrapping Order: First scrap Dazhui(GV14) on the neck and Dazhu( BL11) on the back, then scrap the back from Feishu(BL13) to Shenshu(BL23), then scrap from Guanyuanshu (BL 26) to Qihai(RN6), last scrap Zusanli (ST 36) on the lower limb.

d. Scrapping Method: Spread a certain amount of scrapping oil on the scrapping parts, first scrap Dazhui(GV14) on the neck and Dazhu ( BL 11) on the back softly, can scrap with edge of scrapping blade until the skin appears Sha. Then scrap the back from Feishu (BL 13) to Shenshu (BL23) from up to down until the skin is red and has purple Sha. Then scrap from Guanyuanshu (BL 26) to Qihai (RN6) on the middle line of abdomen from up to down until the skin is red and has purple Sha, once from Guanyuanshu (BL 26) to Qihai(RN6) and can't stop. Last scrap Zusanli (ST 36) with emphasis on the outside of lower limb for 30 times, it doesn't need to appear Sha.

4. Cupping Therapy
1) Syndrome due to deficiency of blood and wind-dryness
Acupoints: Xinshu(BL15), Geshu(BL17), Pishu(BL20), Fengchi(GB20), Zusanli (ST 36)
Operational Method: The patient takes a sitting position. Choose medium caliber glass jar, use flash fire cupping method to bottom the above acupoints on the same side for 5-10 minutes, use the same method to bottom the acupoints on the other side for 5-10 minutes the next day. Practice on the both side alternately, once a day.

2) Syndrome due to Deficiency of Liver-Qi and Kidney-Qi
Acupoints: Ganshu(BL 18), Shenshu(BL23), Geshu(BL17), Guanyuan(RN4), Sanyinjiao(SP6)
Operational Method: The patient takes a sitting position. Choose medium caliber glass jar, use flash fire cupping method to bottom the above acupoints on the same side for 5-10 minutes, use the same method to bottom the acupoints on the other side for 5-10 minutes the next day. Practice on the both side alternately, once a day.

3) Syndrome due to stagnation of Qi and blood
Acupoints: Feishu (BL 13), Ganshu(BL 18), Ganshu (BL 18), Fengchi(GB20), Xuehai (SP 10)
Operational Method: The patient takes a sitting position. Choose medium caliber glass jar, use flash fire cupping method to bottom the above acupoints on the same side for 5-10 minutes, use the same method to bottom the acupoints on the other side for 5-10 minutes the next day. Practice on the both side alternately, once a day.

5. Foot Massage
Basic reflection area: Head, hypophysis cerebra, solar plexus
Related reflection area: Heart, Kidney, adrenal gland
Symptom reflection area: ureter, bladder
Foot reflexotherapy takes 10-15 times as a course of treatment, 30-40 minutes each time, once to twice a day, 1-2-day break needed between two courses of treatment, foot bath in light saltwater can help recover the sensation of foot to massage.
