Acupoints on the upper abdomen are usually needled perpendicularly 0.5 - 1.5 cun, but those near the chest should not be needled deeply.  Those on the lower abdomen can be needled perpendicularly 1 - 2 cun but they should not be needled in the gravida. Those on the lower abdomen should be needled after urination to avoid pricking the bladder.
Zhongwan (CV 12)--It is needled perpendicularly 1 -1.5 cun. The needle should not be inserted obliquely toward the left and right to avoid puncturing the internal organs.
Shenque (CV 8)--It should not be needled. Moxibustion with the cushion of salt or ginger is applicable to this acupoint.
