Acupuncture Extra Point Xiajishu (EX-B5)
Location:
Lie pronely; in the depression between spinous processes of the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebra on the posterior median line.

Function:
Regulating the lower jiao and improving the functions of joints.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-supraspinal ligament-interspinal ligament.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial branches of the posterior branch of the fourth lumbar nerve and the accompanying artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the external (posterior) vertebral venous plexus of the spinous process, the posterior branch of the 4th lumbar nerve and the branch of the dorsal branch of the 4th lumbar artery and vein.

Indications:
Difficulty in urination, enuresis, and cystitis.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local soreness and distension, radiating downwards; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5-10 mim.
Note:
To avoid bleeding and injuring the spinal cord, don`t lift and thrust the needle.
