Acupuncture Extra Point Yaoyi (EX-B6)
Location:
Lie pronely; 3 cun lateral to the posterior median line on the same level of the lower border of spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra.

Function:
Regulating the stomach and correcting the reverse flow of qi.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-superficial layer of thoracolumbar fascia-erector spinal muscle (or medial and superior border of greatest gluteal muscle).
In the superficial layer, there is the superior clunial nerve. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of the posterior branch of the 4th lumbar nerve and the branches or tributaries of the dorsal branches of the 4th lumbar artery and vein.

Indications:
Metrorrhagia and lumbar pain.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun deep or obliquely to 0.5-1 cun deep toward to the spine; needling response: local soreness and distension; moxibustion: 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 5-15 min.
Note:
The organs involved include the kidney, the descrending part of duedenum and the head of pancreas ( on the right side ) or the stomach and the small intestine ( on the left side ) in the abdominal cavity.
