Acupuncture Extra Point Yaoyan (EX-B7)
Location:
Lie pronely; firstly, locate YaoyangguanGV3 (Yaoyangguan (GV3)) on the same level of iliac crest ( the lower border of spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra ), in the depression of 3.5-4 cun lateral to YaoyangguanGV3 (GV3) on the left and the right side respectively. A simple and easy method for localizing point: raises hand and somewhat turn over body to posterior; in the depression on the same level of YaoyangguanGV3 (GV3) in the lumbar region.

Function:
Strengthening the waist and kidney by nourishing yin.

Indications:
Lumbar pain, frequent urine, enuresis, nephroptosis, orchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, and Irregular Menstruation.

Prescription:
Combined use with ShenshuBL23 (Shenshu (BL23)) and WeizhongBL40 (Weizhong (BL 40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) for treatment of lumbar pain; with PishuBL20 (Pishu (BL20)) and ShenshuBL23 (BL23) for treatment of nephroptosis; and with WeizhongBL40 (BL40), ShenshuBL23 (BL23), and Ashi points for treatment of chronic lumbar pain.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local soreness and distension, sometimes radiating toward the hip; moxibustion: using 5-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10-15 min .
