Acupuncture Point Taichong (LR3)
Location:
Sit upright with drooping feet; in the depression anterior to the combining site of the base of metatarsal bones, between the 1st and the 2nd metatarsal bone on the dorsum of foot, on the lateral border of the tendon of musculus extensor hallucis longus.

Function:
Calming the liver and clearing heat, refreshing oneself and regulating the functions of lower jiao.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between tendons of long extensor muscle of great toe and long extensor muscke of toes-lateral side of short extensor muscle of great toe-1st dorsal interosseous muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the venous network of the dorsum of the foot and the medial dorsal cutaneous nerve of the foot. In the deep layer, there are the deep peroneal nerve ane the 1st dorsal metatarsal artery and vein.

Indications:
Headache, dizziness and vertigo, Insomnia, congestion, swelling and pain in the eye, depression, Infantile Convulsion, deviation of the mouth, pain in the hypochondriac region, uterine bleeding, hernia, enuresis, retention of urine, Epilepsy, swelling and pain in the anterior aspect of the medial malleolus.

Prescription:
Combined use with Acupuncture Single Point Fengchi for treatment of glaucoma; with Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of hypertension; with Huiyang (BL35) for treatment of dysmenorrhea; with Ququan (LR8) He-Sea Point) for treatment of dysentery; with Zhongfeng (LR 4) Jing-River Point) and Diji (SP8) Xi-Cleft Point) for treatment of azoospermia; with Dadun (LR 1) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of hernia; and with Shaofu (HT 8) Ying-Spring Point), Zhaohai (KI 6) The Eihgt Confluent Point), and Ququan (LR8) for treatment of hysteroptosis.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention, radiating toward the toe; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
