Acupuncture Point Zhongfu (LU1)
Location:
1.Upright sitting position with arms akimbo; 1 cun directly below YunmenLU2(Yunmen (LU2)) in the depression below the acromial extremity of the clavicle, on the level of the 1st intercostal space. 2. Supine position; 2 cun lateral to and 3 ribs directly above the nipple (in man), in the 1st intercostal space.

Function:
Purging away the chest-heat, cleaning away the lung-heat, invigorating the spleen.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-greater pectoral muscle-smaller pectoral muscle-axillary cavity. In the superficial layer, there are the intermediate supraclavicular nerve, the lateral cutaneous branches of the first intercostal nerve and the cephalic vein and so on. In the deep layer, there are the thoracoacromial artery and the vein, medial and lateral pectoral nerves

Indications:
Cough, Asthma, difficult to lie down due to shortness of breath, fullness sensation in the chest, pain in the chest, cough and spitting pus and blood, exogenous febrile disease, feverish sensation in the chest, inflammation of the throat, stuffy nose, sweating; abdominal swelling, swelling in limbs, facial edema and skin pain, vomiting, anorexia; goiter, sensation of gas rushing, dragging pain of abdomen and lower back, pain in shoulder and back, etc.

Prescription:
Combined with Feishu (BL 13) , Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point) and Taiyuan (LU9)Shu-Stream Point, Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of bronchitis; with Acupuncture Single Point Juque Front-Mu Point of the Heart), Feishu (BL 13)and Chize (LU5) for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis; with Shaochong (HT 9) Jing-Well Point) for treatment of check pain; with Jianshi (PC5) Jing-River Point) and Hegu (LI 4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of hydrops; with Yangjiao (GB 35) Xi-Cleft Point of the Yangwei Meridian) for treatment of inflammation of the throat; with YisheBL49 (Yishe (BL49)) for treatment of fullness sensation in chest and dysphagia.

Methods:
Direction: Puncture horizontally toward the lateral and superior side; depth: 0.5-1 cun; needling response: local sensation of distention, irradiating toward the upper arm; moxibustion: 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don't puncture deeply toward the medial aspect, or else the needle would penetrate the serratus anterior muscle-the external intercostal muscle-the internal intercostal muscles-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung by its tip and cause pneumatothorax.
