Acupuncture Point Dicang (ST4)
Location:
Upright sitting or supine position; with one's eyes looking forward horizontally, meeting point of the vertical line passing through the pupil and the horizontal line passing through
angulus oris.

Function:
Expelling pathogenic wind, improving eyesight, activating the collaterals and alleviating pain.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-orbicular muscle of mouth-depressor muscle of angle of mouth.
There are the buccal and infraorbital branches of the trigeminal nerve and the branches or tributaries of the facial artery and vein in this area.

Indications:
Deviation of the mouth, salivation, twitching of eyelids.

Prescription:
Combined use with JiacheST6 (Jiache (ST6)) and TaiyangEXHN5 (EX-HN5) for treatment of facial paralysis; and with JiacheST6 (ST6) for treatment of deviated mouth and eye; and with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI 4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of salivation.

Methods:
Insert the needle subcutaneously 1.0-1.5 cun deep; with the tip of the needle directed towards JiacheST6 (ST6); needling reponse: local sensation of distension and soreness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
