Arthritis is caused by the inflammation of the joints and bones. This may lead to swelling and tenderness is the inflamed area and if it is not take care of or ignored it can lead to complications like disintegration of bones or cartilage. This can lead to partially immobility of that particular area.

There are many causes of arthritis like genetics where it is hereditary, age: arthritis is more prone to older people especially people above the age of 40 as by then bones start becoming brittle. Some time too much of body weight can also be a cause as joint may not be able to handle the weight that is put on them. People with certain occupations like assembly line or construction workers are more prone to this as they lift weights and do hard labor. Some home remedies for arthritis in the hands are very easy and can be done without much help. One of the first and foremost is applying heat or ice packs on your hands. The heat or cold is said to work to help reduce swelling and relive pain as you do this compress.

Another remedy is that in a bucket of warm water dissolve some Epsom salts and dip your hands in that. You could then bathe in it for some time. This salt water bathing of hands will help in soothing your inflamed joints in the hand. To increase the immunity of the body and ease the pain the in joints drink a juice made as a mixture of carrot juice, beet juice and spinach. Potato is considered to have anti oxidant and anti inflammatory properties, therefore cut thin slices of potato and keep them in cold water overnight and in the morning the next day drink that water. This raw potato juice is said to act as an agents to relive pain make sure the joints are flexible.

Turmeric is another anti inflammatory spice. Add a teaspoon of turmeric into some warm milk with a dash of honey and drink it. To apply externally on your sore joints you could make a paste by mixing a little of lobelia and cayenne, mullein leaves and slippery elm bark with some warm water. Apply this paste on your hand joints and leave it for half an hour or so. This will help in reducing pain with it soothing effect. Avoid rich food like red meat chocolates and alcohol. Also keep your weight in check and avoid lifting heavy objects that could strain your joints in your hands.
