The source is from the root of Panax notoginseng (Burk.) T. H. Chen, family Araliaceae. The
medicinal material is mainly produced in the areas of Yunnan, Guangxi, etc.. The root that has grown for over three years is collected. The one that is dug during the first ten days of August, after or before 10 days of the beginning of Autumn is called "Chunsanqi", which is better in quality; The one that is dug in November of winter when the seed is ripe is called "Dongsanqi", which is poorer in quality. The root collected is exposed to the sun until it becomes half-dry, and then it is rubbed with the hands as it is in the sun so as to make its surface smooth and the body somewhat conical and solid, and then dried in the sun. The crude is used.

Application
1. It is used for various kinds of internal and external bleedings, especially for the bleeding with blood stasis, since it has very good action of stopping bleeding, can promote blood circulation to remove blood stasis, and has the advantage of arresting bleeding without stasis and removing blood stasis while healthy qi can be kept. It can be ground singly into powder that is swallowed or combined with Huaruishi (Ophicalcitum), Xueyutan (Crinis Carbonisatus), such as Huaxue Dan (Pill). For bleeding due to trauma, its powder is used externally on local area to arrest bleeding and alleviate pain.
2. It is used for trauma with blood-stasis syndrome and painful swelling. It has the actions of promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis, relieving swelling and especially alleviating pain. It can be used alone or combined with herbs that promote circulation of blood and qi.
In addition, it can circulate the blood and alleviate pain and is used in the treatment of coronary heart disease with angina pectoris and ischemic cerebrovascular disease, etc., also used for chronic hepatitis due to blood stasis.

Usage and Dosage:
3 - 10 g is used in decoction for oral use. 1 - 3 g of the powder is swallowed; just right amount for external use.
