Cerebral apoplexy and reflexology treatment

Cerebral apoplexy is also called stroke with symptoms of collapse, loss of consciousness, deviation of mouth and eye, hemiplegia and aphasia, or with clear consciousness and deviation of mouth and eye, and hemiplegia alone. The hemorrhagic and ischemic cerebrovascular diseases in modern medicine can be treated by the following methods.
  
Applications of hand therapy:
  
Massage therapy:
  
Location: Head area, pads and joints of fingers, Shenmen (HT 7), Shaoshang (LU11), Erjian (LI 2), Hegu (LI 4), Shaoze (SI 1) and Qiangu (SI 2) acupoints.
  
Method of manipulation: Continuous digit-pressing and kneading maneuvers applied to head area; pinching and kneading maneuvers at radial and ulnar borders and pads of fingers; twisting and pulling joints of fingers; heavy digit-pressing and pinching maneuvers at Shenmen (HT 7), Shaoshang (LU11), Erjian (LI 2), Hegu (LI 4), Shaozi (SI 1) and Qiangu (SI 2) acupoints, especially heavy manipulation applied to the affected side; and pinching maneuver at nail beds.
  
Acupuncture therapy:
  
At regular and extra acupoints:
Location: In patients with attack at internal organs, 12 Jing points and Shixuan (EX-UE 11) are selected; in patients with  attack at meridians, the location is determined according to clinical manifestations; in patients with speech disturbance, Tongli (HT5), Neiguan (PC6) and Hegu (LI 4) are used; in patients with numbness and paralysis of upper limbs, Quchi (LI 11), Waiguan (TE5) and Hegu are used; and in patients with damage to lower limbs, Quchi (LI 11) and Houxi (SI 3) of the contralateral side are used. Patients are asked to move the affected limbs during the application of acupuncture.
  
Method of manipulation: Bleeding therapy with three-edged needle is applied at 12 Jing points and Shixuan (EX- UE 11) and routine acupuncture is applied at other points.
  
At reflective areas:

Location: The location is determined according to the location of the lesion. For example, the right upper limb area in dorsal reflective areas and radial reverse dorsal reflective areas may be selected.
  
Method of manipulation: The needle is shallowly inserted for application of medium needling stimulaticn.
  
At special acupoints beside the seccnd metacarpal bone:
  
Location: Head acupoint and corresponding acupoints of the affected limbs. For example, in patients with paralysis of upper limb, the head acupoint and upper limb acupoint are used.
  
Method Of manipulation: The needles are inserted for 1.6 cm for application of strong stimulation.
