Zhang Ji (f1.ca.152 219),commonly known as Zhang Zhong jing,was a native of Nanyang (then a commander),Henan Province.A prominent physician,he had a profound understanding of medicine.His doctrines laid the foundation for clinical medicine.He was conversant with all aspects of practice.He advocated the use of enemas,suppositories,fumigation,and immersion in water as therapeutic measures for febrile disorders.He was revered as a sage of medicine by later ages.and influenced medical practice in China and elsewhere for over a millennium.His Shanghan za bing lun(Treatise On Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Disorders)is considered the progenitor of the prescription literature.(By courtesy of Chinese Museum for History of Medicine)
