    Copper and silver.Traditional physicians used a variety of instruments for external therapy.Needles were for lancing carbuncles and abscesses；large cauteries were used for abscesses on the nape of the neck and back,and small ones for inflamed tonsils；scalpels were for opening lesions； scrapers were for removing the pseudomembrane on ulcerated surfaces；hooks  were  for  hooking and hairpins were for applying medicine topically.(Collection of Museum for History of Medicine,Shanghai University of TCM)
