Copper and silver.Traditional physicians used a variety of instruments for external therapy.Needles were for lancing carbuncles and abscesses;large cauteries were used for abscesses on the nape of the neck and back,and small ones for inflamed tonsils;scalpels were for opening lesions; scrapers were for removing the pseudomembrane on ulcerated surfaces;hooks were for hooking and hairpins were for applying medicine topically.(Collection of Museum for History of Medicine,Shanghai University of TCM)
