(1) Damp-heat Retention
Chief Manifestations: Bright yellow coloration of the face, sclera and skin, fever, thirst, lassitude, poor appetite, dark yellow urine, constipation, yellow and greasy tongue coating, wiry and rapid or soft-superficial and rapid pulse. 

(2) Dampness Stagnation in the Spleen
Chief Manifestations: Epigastric oppression, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, fatigue, hypochondriac pain, or jaundice in the face, sclera and skin, loose stools, tastelessness or stickiness in the mouth, greasy, white and yellowish tongue coating, and soft-superficial and smooth pulse.

(4) Obstruction of the Collaterals by Blood Stasis
Chief Manifestations:Dark dusty complexion or vascular spiders, hepatosplenomegaly with hard texture, stabbing pain in the hypochondria, bright red palms, frequent nasal and gingival hemorrhage, low fever aggravated at night, dysmenorrhea with dark-colored clots in female patients, dark purple tongue with ecchymoses,deep, thready and unsmooth pulse.

(5) Deficiency of the Liver and Spleen
Chief Manifestations: Shortness of breath, dislike of speaking, lassitude, lusterless complexion, impaired appetite, abdominal distension after intake of food, dull pain in the hypochondrium, dizziness, dryness and pain of eyes, emaciation or puffy face, occasional loose stools, pale tongue with white coating, and thready and weak pulse.

(6) Deficiency of Liver Yin and Kidney Yin
Chief Manifestations: Dull pain in the hypochondrium which is aggravated by exertion, dizziness, tinnitus, dryness and pain of eyes, dry mouth and throat, insomnia, dreamfulness, feverish sensation in the chest,palms and soles, soreness and weakness in the loins and knees, hypomenorrhea or amenorrhea in female patients, red small tongue with little saliva or with cracks, thin coating, thready and rapid pulse.

(7) Deficiency of Spleen Yang and Kidney Yang
Chief Manifestations: Intolerance of cold and preference for warmth, cold limbs, cold pain in the lower abdomen, loins and knees, lassitude, dull pain in the hypochondrium, impaired appetite, loose stools with undigested food, even frequent diarrhea or fecal incontinence, abdominal fullness, scanty urine, no edema of the lower limbs, pale and swollen tongue, deep, thready and forceless pulse, or deep and slow pulse.
