Rectifying and mobilizing manipulations are also known as "manipulations of joint movement". See Fig.3 for the typical joint movement of various ranges. Generally speaking, the rectifying and mobilizing manipulations act on those joints with movement limitation. And the accomplishment of manipulations must break through the pathological or physiological limitation range of movements of those joints. So they certainly stimulate the pathological tissues, causing pain and protective reaction. Besides, due to the stimulation of pathological products, the motor muscles of the joints are in a state of spasm which is difficult for the manipulator to fulfill the necessary range of passive movement or the movement to separate the articular surface. Therefore, the rectifying and mobilizing manipulations must observe the following requirements. Click to learn Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in TCM.

1. Suitable posture
Before the rectifying and mobilizing manipulations being applied, the patient must be put in a suitable posture according to the principles of biomachanics to relax the muscles, broaden the space of joints, thus reducing the resistance and making the manipulations easily accomplished. For example, when resetting an upper thoracic vertebral subluxation, it is necessary to put a soft pad under the patient’s chest and make the neck slightly flex down so that the cervical and the thoracic vertebrae are in the same area. Take the case of rectifying a lumbar vertebral subluxation as another example, it is better to adjust the rotation range of the spine and flexion angle of the hip with the lower limbs to make the twisting center of the spine just fall on the subluxation segment, and then make the manipulation easily done. 2. Smooth, light, ingenious, brief and easily controlled movement
The manipulating course is usually divided into two phases. First, the joint is moved to a limited position smoothly and slowly. Second, a light, ingenious, brief and sudden thrusting is done to enlarge the range of the movement of the joint. As soon as the thrusting is done, one must stop it to make the joint restore its middle position.

3. Correct direction of delivering force
During the manipulating process, one must consider those things such as the shape of articular surface, the instantaneous center of the movement of joint and the direction at which the two joint sarf: aces will move along, in order to hold the correct direction of manipulation. Otherwise, it is impossible to achieve the goal of the manipulation. For instance, there are posterior subluxation and anterior subluxation at sacroiliac joint. For the former, one should press the posterior superior iliac spine in the anterior, lateral and inferior direction and the lower end of sacrum in the superior direction at the same time; for the latter, one should press the ischial tuberosity in the anterior, lateral and superior direction and the upper end of sacrum in the anterior and inferior direction. It is impossible to restore the subluxation if the direction is wrong. Click to learn TCM Treatment Evaluation for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
