Organs on the head mainly include: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, mouth, and throat and brain tissue. Distribution of meridians and collaterals of these organs are complicated. Expect pericardium meridian, all meridians and collaterals are distributed over different organs and their distribution styles are various, some are directly distributed in organs, some are distributed over parts or important parts of organs, some are distributed over certain part of organ or passes this region and some are recorded that pertains to or passes certain organ but not specific circulation lines. In dealing with these problems, this diagram is according to manifestations of disease of meridians and collaterals, meridians and collaterals which are distributed in organ region and have manifestations of disease of important organs are brought into meridians and collaterals which are distributed in this organ, their distribution are associated with organs directly but different in part positions. Such as problems of kidney meridian which reaches ear, it draws the nearest route of kidney meridian.

For instance, kidney meridian is distributed over tongue and penetrates from auditory tube into ear at base of the tongue. Meridians and collaterals which are distributed over brain are concluded into meridians and collaterals which enter into cranial cavity directly but no according to symptoms, as gallbladder meridian is distributed outside cranium and has manifestations of disease of brain but not enters into cranial cavity, so it dose not pertain to meridians and collaterals which are distributed over brain.

Meridians and collaterals which are distributed over five sense organs, there are 20 in throat, 16 in eyes, 8 in tongue, 7 in mouth, 7 in ears and 7 in nose. Viscera and bowels which are associated with each other directly, there are six bowels and three viscera in throat and tongue, two bowels and five viscera in eyes, one bowel and two viscera in mouth, one bowel and six viscera in ear, one bowel and four viscera in nose. There are 6 meridians and collaterals which are distributed over brain; there is one bowel and two viscera which are associated with each other directly, there are seven viscera and bowels which reach eyes directly but other internal organs and meridians and collaterals can not and are replaced by meridians in internal and external relation.

Five sense organs are closely connected with internal organs, they are portal which five viscera connects with outside. Five sense organs transfer received information to internal organs; internal organs regulate balance of yin and yang through meridians and collaterals to adapt changes of outside and keep normal life condition of human body. Internal organs and five sense organs have the above physiological relationship, so when one is with disease, the other must be effective and appear symptom of disease. Such as when it is heart-heat and fire of moxibustion superabound, texture of tongue becomes purple-red; when deficiency of heart and deficiency of heart-QI, tongue will be dyscinesia and can not speak; when hepatic fire upgrades, eyes will be flare and pain, blood fails to nourish liver, liver qi fails to nourish eyes, it will be dim eyesight and dizzy, dry of two eyes, night blindness, blind in both eyes when serious.

When lung is pathogenic wind-cold, it will be nasal obstruction and nasal discharge; when insufficiency of gastric qi, it will be frightened on hearing wood; when deficiency of liver-QI, it will hate of seeing fire; when hydrophobia and deficiency of heart-energy, it will be spasm of seeing water; when greedy of cakes and pastry and polyphagia, it will be impairment of spleen. Functions of five sense organs are complicated, meridian-QI of main viscera and bowels supply function of each organ, but there are combinations of meridian qi of viscera, the most are 7 viscera and bowels and the least are 3. So disease of internal organs which five sense organs reflect is not simple viscus and bowel but diverse of internal organs disease, we can diagnose symptom of internal organs from changes of texture of tongue and tongue fur, color changes which are at different positions of eyes can reflect disease of internal organs. These diadynamic criteria appear on meridians and collaterals which are distributed over five sense organs, further grasping distribution of meridians and collaterals of five sense organs, it is easy to deepen understand physiology and pathology of five sense organs and in favor of diagnosis and treatment of disease.

It discusses clearly function of brain in TCM theory, it is within function of heart and place which essential qi of five viscera and six bowels gathers and position of human’ spirit, so it is called extraordinary organs. Meridians and collaterals which connect with eyes connect with brain; there are 18 meridians and collaterals which are distributed over brain. It should think highly that brain is headquarters of psychomotility, meridians and collaterals of five viscera and six bowels should connect with brain, because of limitations of literature records, this meaning can not be expressed in the diagram.
