Acupuncture Point Taixi(KI3)
Location:
Upright sitting or supine position; amid the posterior border of medial malleolus and the anterior border of Achilles tendon, the same level with the apex of malleolus medialis.

Function:
Tonifying yin to reducing heat, invigorating the kidney-yang, regulating the function of the uterus, and strengthening the waist and knee.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between tendons of posterior tibial muscle and long flexor muscle of toes and tendon of plantar muscle and Achilles tendon-long flexor muscle of great toe.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous branches of the saphenous nerve to the leg and the tributaries of the great saphenous vein. In the deep layer, there are thetibial nerve and the posterior tibial artery and vein.

Indications:
Nephritis, urocystitis, Irregular Menstruation, spermatorrhea, enuresis, toothache, chronic laryngitis, stomatitis, tinnitus, pulmonary emphysema, cough, asthma, neurasthenia, Lumbago, paralysis of the lower limbs, painful heel, cold limbs in case of febrile diseases, endocarditis, pleuritis, mastitis, phrenospasm, vomiting, and constipation.

Prescription:
Combined use with Acupuncture Single Point Guanyuan Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) for treatment of urocystitis, enuresis; with Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point), Huangshu (KI 16), and Ganshu (BL 18) for treatment of periumbilical colic due to invasion by cold; with Yinbai(SP1) Jing-Well Point (Yinbai(SP1) Jing-Well Point), Fengmen (BL 12), DuiduanGV27 (Duiduan (GV27)), and NaokongGB19 (Naokong (GB19)) for treatment of apostaxis; with Yintang (EX- HN 3) for treatment of sleeplessness; with Kunlun (BL60) Jing-River Point) for treatment of sprain of the ankle; and with Yuji (LU10) Ying-Spring Point), Acupuncture Single Point Zhongji Front-Mu Point of the Bladder), and Sanyinjiao (SP6) for treatment of penis pain.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly, 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local numbness and distension, radiating toward the sole; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
