Health DescriptionHealth Consultation Description: What is the best shampoo for
Seborrheic Dermatitis and hair loss? Is a prescription shampoo or an OTC shampoo better? Which ingredient in the shampoo seems to work? Is it better to go to a beauty supply store or a drugstore for an OTC product? The flakes in my hair are not very visible but I do have lots of hair loss & thinning. My thyroid is fine, but I have anxiety & stress which contributes to the prob. Also, my head does not itch. I went to a derm who sold me products from DCL Labs which didn't help. My GP thought that is was Seborrheic Dermatitis. Biotin just helps my nails, but not my hair.
Expert ReplyCondition analysis:
I deal with this problem also but sometimes my scalp itches like crazy so I feel for ya. Ive have tried so many shampoos out there and even certain oils which made my hair way to greecy. Selson Blue is over the counter at almost any pharmacy or grocery store and it is the only one that Ive tried that seems to do any good.
Instructions:
1. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia tree. Tea tree oil can effectively provide relief from the symptoms. You can use a shampoo containing tea tree oil (5%) to clean your hair. Another option is to mix a few drops of this oil in your regular shampoo. The shampoo should be removed with water only after a period of 5 minutes.
2. Thyme
Thyme can be used in the treatment of the symptoms associated with seborrheic dermatitis. It has mild antiseptic properties. You can create a mixture by boiling dried thyme (4 tablespoons) in water (2 cups) for a period of 10 to 15 minutes. You should pour 50% of this mixture on your hair and gently massage your scalp. Remaining mixture should be used on the next day.
