Reflexology has a positive affect on soft tissue sprain

This is an injury to soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels, without bone fi'acture, dislocation of joint or rupture of the skin and muscles. The patient may suffer from local swelling and pain and limited movement. Before applying foot therapy, bone fracture, joint dislocation, and rupture of ligaments or other bone diseases should be ruled out.
   
Treatment:
Foot massage: The reflecting areas are selected according to the location of the injury.Neck: Neck (7), cervical spine (53), trapezius muscle (14) and coeliac plexus (20) reflecting areas.

Shoulder: Shoulder (10), scapula (59) and hip joint (38) reflecting areas.

Wrist joint: According to the close correlation of hand and foot, the massage is applied to the ankle joint.

Waist: Lumbar spine (55), thoracic spine (54), sacrum (56), sciatic nerve (58), lymph nodes (abdomen, 40), adrenal gland (21) and kidney (22) reflecting areas.

Hip region: Hip joint (38), adrenal gland (21), kidney (22), lumbar spine (55), sacrum (56) and sciatic nerve (58) reflecting areas.

Knee: Knee (35), adrenal gland (21), kidney (22), ureter (23) and urinary bladder (24) reflecting areas (Fig. 104).
The massage is repeatedly applied with the pressure gradually increased, and the patients are asked to gently move their affected region to obtain better results.
 
Foot acupuncture:
1) Meridianal acupoints: At Kunlun (BL60), Shugu (BL65), Diwuhui (GB 42), Shenmai (BL62), Yongquan (KI 1), Taixi (KI3), Xingjian (LR2) and Qiuxu (GB40) acupoints, a reducing acupuncture technique is applied and the needles are retained for 20 to 30 minutes. Moxibustion may be applied in cases of chronic lesions.

2) Extra acupoints: At Xiakunlun (EX-F 3) and Quanshengzu (EX-F 7) acupoints, a reducing acupuncture technique is applied and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.

3) Foot acupoints: The acupoints are selected according to the location of lesion: Stiff neck (FA-D 6) acupoint is selected for lesion of neck; Lumbago (FA-D 4) and Kidney (FA-P 14) acupoints for lesion of waist; and the Waist and leg (FA-D 9), Ischium 1 (FA-P 18) and Ischium 2 (FA-D 5) acupoints for lumbago. A strong acupuncture stimulation is applied for acute injury, and a moderate stimulation is applied for chronic injury. The needles are retained for 20 minutes.
  
External application of drug:
The powder of Fuzi (raw aconite lateral root) 30 gm is mixed with liquor to prepare a paste for application to bilateral Yongquan (KI 1) acupoints.
