Ingredients:
No. 1 Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae) 9 g;
No. 2 Fangfeng (Radix Ledebouriellae) 9 g;
No. 3 Niubangzi (Fructus Arctii) 9 g;
No. 4 Chantui (Periostracum Cicadae) 3 g;
No. 5 Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis) 6 g;
No. 6 Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis) 6 g;
No. 7 Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 15 g;
No. 8 Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) 9 g;
No. 9 Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) 9 g;
No. 10 Humaren (Semen Sesami) 9 g;
No. 11 Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae) 12 g
No. 12 Mutong (Caulis Akebiae) 1.5 g;
No. 13 Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) 1.5 g.

Administration:
Decoct the above drugs in water for oral application.

Actions:
Dispelling wind and nourishing blood, clearing away heat and removing dampness.

Clinical Application:
This recipe is indicated for rubella and eczema, marked by red skin rash or dots and spots over the whole body with pruritus, exudation of body fluid after scratching, whitish or yellowish fur, superficial and rapid pulse. It is applicable to urticaria, allergic dermatitis, paddy field dermatitis, dermatitis medicamentosa, neurodermatitis, and others, which are characterized by red skin rashes with pruritus and caused by pathogenic wind, dampness or heat. In case of feverish body and thirst due to dominant wind-heat, add Jinyinhua (Flos Lonicerae ) and Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae) to dispel wind and clear away heat.

In case of dominant damp heat with fullness or stuffiness in chest or epigastrium, heaviness and weakness of the body, thick and greasy yellowish fur, add Difuzi (Fructus Kochiae), Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis) and Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae) to clear away heat and induce diuresis. In case of excessive heat in xuefen with feverish sensation in palms and sores, reddened or deep-red tongue, add Chishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Mudanpi (Cortex Moutan Radicis ) and Zicao (Radix Arnebiae seu Lithospermi) to clear away heat from blood and cool the blood.

Elucidation: The syndrome is caused by wind-heat or wind-dampness retaining in the skin and interstitial space. It should be treated by dispelling wind and nourishing blood as well as clearing away heat and inducing diuresis. The first four ingredients are the monarch drugs in the recipe, which can dispel wind from the superficies and relieve itching. No. 5 has the function of expelling wind and dampness, No. 6 clearing away heat and dampness, No. 12 clearing away damp heat by promoting diuresis, and No. 8 and No. 7 clearing away heat and purging away fire, which altogether eliminate damp heat retaining in superficies and function as minister drugs. No. 9, No. 11 and No. 10 serve as adjuvant drugs, capable of nourishing blood and promoting circulation of blood. They can riot only prevent wind from impairing blood but also prevent drugs of bitter and dry nature from impairing yin and consuming blood. The last ingredient possesses the effect of purging away fire and mediating drug properties and plays the role of guiding drug.

Cautions:
During the application of this recipe, patients should refrain from pungent flavor, meat, strong tea, cigarettes and liquor. Otherwise, the therapeutic effect may be weakened.
