How to treat toothache by foot massage

Differential diagnosis:
Toothache due to caries: Tooth pain may come and go from time to time, and may be induced by chewing food with the bad tooth.
  
Toothache caused by wind and heat pathogens: Besides the toothache relievable by cold, patients may also have swelling of gums, difficulty chewing food, swelling and redness of cheek, thirst, red tip of tongue with white and dry coating, and floating and rapid pulse.

Toothache caused by wind and cold pathogens: Patients may suffer from toothache relievable by heat, chills induced by blowing wind, no thirst, white and slippery tongue coating, and slow and moderate pulse.
   
Toothache due to heat pathogens in stomach: Patients may suffer from toothache, swelling of gums, thirst, foul odor from mouth, constipation, yellow and dry tongue coating, and full and rapid pulse.
   
Toothache due to deficient fire pathogens: A dull toothache may come and go from time to time, with loosened tooth root, flushed cheeks, dryness in throat, red tongue tip, and thready and rapid pulse.
   
Treatment:
Foot massage: The massage is applied to neck (7), palate (47), low jaw (46), stomach (15), liver (18), small intestine (25) and lymph nodes (upper body, 39) reflecting areas (Fig. 118).
   
Foot acupuncture:
1) Meridianal acupoints: At Chongyang (ST42), Neiting (ST44), Lidui (ST 45), Zulinqi (GB41), Kunlun (BL60) and Taixi (KI3) acupoints, a balanced reinforce-reducing acupuncture technique is applied for toothache due to deficient fire pathogens, and a reducing acupuncture technique is applied for other types of toothache. The needles are retained for 30 minutes.

2) Extra acupoints: A reducing acupuncture technique is applied to Waihuaiqian Jiaomai (EX-F1), Nuxi (FA-F 6) and Bafeng (FA-F 22) acupoints and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.

3) Foot acupoints: A strong acupuncture stimulation is applied at Head and face (FA-P 1), Toothache 1 and 2 (FA-P 19 and 20) acupoints and the needles are retained for 30 minutes. Kidney (FA-P 14) acupoint is added for toothache due to deficient fire pathogens.
  
External application of drugs:
1) Toothache due to Yin deficiency: The powder of Fuzi (raw aconite lateral root) is mixed with water to prepare a paste for application to the central area of both soles.

2) Toothache due to kidney deficiency: The powder of Fuzi (aconite lateral root) 15 gm, Wuzhuyu (evodia fruit) 15 grn, Xixin (wild ginger) 15 gm, and Dahuang (rhubarb) 6 gm is mixed with vinegar to prepare a paste for application to Yongquan (KI 1) acupoints. The paste is changed once a day.

3) Suppuration of tooth root: The powder of Dahuang (raw rhubarb) 9 gm, Dingxiang (cloves) 10 grains and mung bean 6 gm is mixed with vinegar to prepare a paste for application to the central area of the soles.
