It refers to a solid preparation of certain shape madeby, mixing drug powder with matrix, which is applied in the cavity and gets melted or dissolved to release drugs, capable of killing worms, relieving itching, moistening, and astringency. Since it is absorbed through rectal mucous (some through vagina), and 50%- 70% of the drugs get into blood circulation directly without passing through the liver, this actually lessens the metabolism of drugs within the liver. Simultaneously it reduces the toxic and side effect to the liver generated by the drugs, and can also prevent gastrointestinal juice from affecting the drugs and drugs from irritating the gastric mucosa. It is especially convenient for infants and babies, such as suppository to relieve fever of the babies, and that to remove hemorrhoid.
